OK, #FreenetProject: Go for it. Become usable, or at least user friendly. The goal would be that my muggle family is able to switch into the "safe" #darknet.

One of the coolest new steps Freenet did is the mobile client for android.

@hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot @ArneBab Why darknet ? We don´t have the same human rights to run public encrypted services as $$$ companys do ?
@hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot @ArneBab If we don´t fight for it ... but move things to the darknet gives them another reason to hunt.

@nawi @hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot do you run a website with a comment field? Did you ever get a notification from your provider that your site got cracked and turned into a spam-slinger?

I did. It’s nasty. I lost pages to defacement. I had to close comments, because moderation wasn’t doable anymore.

Why darknet? Because it makes you independent of all that.

Alternative name that captures how it works: Decentralized Friend-to-Friend network.

@ArneBab @hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot To say because of this and that we can‘t do is also no way. And the darknet gives politicans and lawenforcements another reason for new laws.

@nawi @hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot All the laws that could apply to Freenet would also have to apply to WhatsApp with its private groups. The main difference is: WhatsApp is prone to surveillance and propaganda by Facebook, and for Europe: it is under total control of a foreign power.

@ArneBab @hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot It is more the label darknet is bad and illegal. WhatsApp confirmed weeks ago to silently add a user to each conversation fur surveillance.

@nawi @hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot So maybe we should simply rebrand and say "we’re a decentralized friend-to-friend network". Friend-to-Friend sounds nice, and it is a much better description of what it is.

Darknet is a name that was created when we thought any possible need for this at home would still be far away.

@nawi @hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot Darknet is a cypherpunk-term. For people who would also run remailers. But nowadays a friend-to-friend network with the defenses needed there to keep communication working with anonymity is something everyone should have.

@ArneBab @hieronymus @absturztaube @cccupdatesbot IIRC tried it many years ago (in the time as the name of I2P was still I2P2 ... booth was that slow ...
